My wife loaned her library book to someone and they failed to return it. Was glad I could find a replacement copy cheaper than libray charges.
I like it because there are no boring parts. Shortly after the party, Dovey is accused of killing Parnell.
Dovey Coe has a deaf brother named Amos and a sister named Caroline. Caroline has a friend named Parnell who is mean, nasty and wants everything for himself.
Dovey lives in Appalachia in the 1920's. Parnell ruins the party before it is halfway done.
Caroline is having a going away party before she leaves to go to teachers college. She invites Parnell.
This book is very interesting. I think this book is a very excellent book and should be read by kids 8 through 14.
The setting of the story takes place during a warm summer. Personally when I checked out this book I wasn't that excited to read it. Her mom, dad, sister Caroline, and brother Amos. She lives in a wonderful place called Katie's Knob with her loving family. Dovey Coe is an interesting book. I recommend for people to read it because it's a really good book, I really liked it. So after the summer ends, there is a very important case to be solved, of who murdered Parnell Caraway. Something starts between Dovey and this boy named Wilson Brown.
I thought it was quite interesting because it had a bit of romance, suspense and mystery. Problem is there never was one. It's about a 13 year old girl named Dovey Coe. I certainly did change my mind about the book. Every day seems quite perfect for Dovey, until an old friend of her sister, named Parnell Caraway Decides to come back into their lives to try an re-candle a flame with Caroline. But Caroline's not the only one who can get a guy in the Coe family. It was the perfect combination.
There's not a lot I can tell you about this book that hasn't already been said. Although we don't find out until the end how Parnell actually dies, we know, without a doubt that tough and sweet Dovey Coe could not have done it. Francis O'Roark Dowell does a fantastic job building the character of Dovey Doe. Right from the first sentence the reader gets to know Dovey personally. No matter how bad it looks, we, the reader, have faith in her and cheer for her until the end. This is a great read from a great author.
Dovey is an irresistible character who you love and root for. Oh, did they dislike Parnell. Great to teach the inequality of social economic class in America. My kids loved reading it aloud with a mountain accent. I hightly recommend this read. Each year I find a girl in my class that has a bit of Dovey's spirit in her.
